The Peninsula

The Saone River separates the business sector from The Peninsula, the largest center for activity in the city. Along the bank of the Saone is a promenade lined with playgrounds on one side and riverboat homes and restaurants on the other. Walkers, joggers and bicyclists make good use of the wide concrete path at the water's edge and couples sit chatting and sharing a baguette on the benches scattered along the path. Numerous bridges connect the business district with the peninsula, some of which have quite interesting architecture and are lit up beautifully as the city gets dark. Once across the Saone, shops, cafes, restaurants and nightlife line the streets, including a pedestrian mall that runs through the center of the Peninsula. It is also the home of the Opera, Hotel Du Ville (now the town hall), the library and many of the government buildings.
