While reports have indicated a decrease in travel spending overall, cruises are still going strong. In 2008, approximately 13.2 million travelers cruised, up from 12.56 in 2007. It's expected that cruise travel will continue to stay the same or increase through 2009 and 2010.
The most likely reasons for this trend include the wide variety of destinations that cruises offer, their inclusive nature (cruises generally include most passenger food and some include drinks and activities as well) and their value. In addition, they work well for families and multi-generational groups, as well as for organized groups and corporate or educational retreats.
Like hotels, cruise lines are offering a lot of discounts and promotions right now and 2010 itineraries are available for booking.
