You may be seeing fewer 5 star hotels in the coming months. In fact, you may see hotels that were once 4 and 5 stars now listed as three stars. Why is this?
Starwood hotels is leading the way in what well might be an industry trend - not renewing their current star rating by eliminating some of the luxury requirements needed for that particular rating.
The reason behind this? Savings - for both the hotel and the customer. It is expensive for hotels to keep a 5-star rating, with lower than normal occupancy rates making it even more challenging. The hotel brand feels that consumers’ main focus is getting the best price and therefore are willing to drop some of their amenities in order to stay competitive on price.
