There is so much to see and do in San Francisco and the surrounding area that it's difficult to list everything. Even though many of the attractions are touristy, they are worth the visit. Some of the highlights include:
Ferry Building -markets, food stalls, several restaurants and a great view of the bay bridge.
Fisherman's Wharf - yes, it's commercial and touristy, but that is part of its charm. Don't forget to check out the sea lions who often sun themselves on the docks near by!
Golden Gate Bridge - It looks as good, if not better, than in pictures and is worth a visit for a picture or two if nothing else. Check out the park near the base of the bridge for some outdoor activity.
Chinatown - Though you may have been to plenty of Chinatowns, this one will almost certainly top them all. It is quite large and very authentic. Stop at one of the tea houses which offer free tastings and enjoy some of San Francisco's best teas.
Ghirardelli Square - Again, touristy but still a nice place to visit, buy some chocolates and enjoy a meal.
Lombard Street - the most crooked street in the United States. Don't necessarily go out of your way to see it, but if your driving nearby, take a look and a picture.
Alcatraz - boat tours to Alcatraz from Fisherman's Wharf virtually all day long. Make sure to wear a hat on your visit to this infamous prison - seagulls also frequent the island and can cause quite a mess for visitors!
Samovar Tea Lounge - this tea lounge is good enough to be mentioned with the major attractions! Enjoy its extensive menus of tea, food and tea pairing and healthy meals. The peaceful atmosphere, along with green views, creates a perfect ambiance for unwinding.
