Getting there: several US cities provide non-stop flights to Cancun. In addition, the Riviera Maya has been a popular stop on many Western Caribbean cruise itineraries for the past several years. The port and region was damaged by Hurricane Dean, but most everything has been repaired.
Entry requirements: U.S. citizens now need a passport to visit Mexico. Cruisers should also have their passport when boarding their ship.
Health concerns: the water, ice and all fruits and vegetables should be safe at the major resorts. When outside of the resorts, best to err on the side of caution and stick to bottled water and no ice in your drinks. Fresh fruits and vegetables may be safe depending on your locations, but are best if pealed and cooked.
