The Eternal City, Rome is a perfect example of the blending of old and new worlds. Visitors can stroll through the ancient ruins of the Coliseum and the Roman Forum, and a few minutes later be shopping for trendy clothes and handbags in the trendy stores that populate the city. The Vatican is a destination unto itself for many religious pilgrimages and art enthusiasts from all over the globe. Of course, culinary treats are also the highlight of any visit to Rome, with scores of authentic Italian restaurants some of which are more geared for tourists and others that may not be as flashy but provide the true Italian dining experience. With so much to see and do (and taste), one could easily spend up to a week in Rome itself. Rome is also a great home base for day trips to towns including Pompeii, Mt. Vesuvius, Naples and the Amalfi Coast.
