Putting on My Adventure Hat
Putting On My Adventure Hat

In four days I will depart on what I anticipate to be possibly the most exciting trip I have ever taken. It was certainly one of the most challenging to plan. Luckily, I like a good travel challenge!

Every year the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) hosts there International Destination Expo (IDE) in a different area of the world to feature education on the surrounding destinations as well as suppliers that specialize in the region. Past expos that I have attended include Jeju, South Korea and Lyon France. This year, the IDE will be hosted in Sun City, South Africa. So, five of us are getting on our adventure hats and heading off to Africa for two weeks. I am particularly excited about this trip for three reasons: First, it has been a goal of mine to reach six continents (I have not yet made plans to venture to Antarctica) and Africa will be my sixth! Secondly, Africa is an area that very much interests and intrigues me, as it does for many of my clients and potential clients, and I look forward to both the expo educational session and supplier meetings, as well as of course the first hand experiences, to learn as much as I can about this rather mysterious continent. Lastly, I absolutely love adventure and animals and cannot wait for the opportunity to experience the African wildlife - some with a more personal encounter and others from slightly afar.

In addition to the expo in Sun City, our travel plans include:

Three nights at the Chobe Game Lodge in Botswana where we get to experience several wildlife activities and cruises along the river.

An overnight in Victoria Falls complete with an afternoon/evening tour of the falls and an early morning elephant back safari.

Capetown and all it has to offer: the Walk to Freedom tour which includes a trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held, a half day tour to the wine region and general sight seeing in and around the region.

I will be blogging as I travel, assuming good internet connection and the ability to stop all of this activity to sit at a computer for a few minutes, so stay tuned for updates!!
